Barrett,

You are someone who has quietly and positively affected the lives of hundreds of people, including mine.

We first met in the fall of 1961, I as an engineering student and you as the Dean and surrogate father to our 1965 class. Freshman year was difficult for me. We met often that year, you listening to my problems, showing interest in how I was doing, and then imparting wisdom. With your support, I made it through that year. It did not end there, throughout my college years, you continued your interest in my progress; it was something I truly appreciated.

Barrett, thank you for your friendship! It is a privilege to know you and to be your friend.
