Dear Dean Hazeltine,

I must confess that my memories of what we learned in EN 9 over 20 years ago are awfully vague. Something about contact lenses for chickens is all that's coming to me at the moment.

But my memories of you are very clear and very happy. You were distinguished among professors, and are defined in my memory by your sheer love for the students. That's what made you truly outstanding—or I should say makes you outstanding. You're only 75, after all.

Happy Birthday!
