Dear Barrett,

Happy Birthday!

It only seems like yesterday I was sitting in the back of your course trying to think of something clever to say. Often you asked me if I was OK. I was almost always OK. Thanks for asking!

Your experiences in Africa convinced me to become a Peace Corps Volunteer. I met my wife in the Peace Corps and we then spent another 10 years in Zaire where we started our family.

Throughout all of my experience, I have always remembered the way in which you would reach out to each and every student you came into contact with and made each of us feel as if we were the most special person in the world. Thank you, Barrett, for making the effort to reach out to all of your students and making a difference in all our lives. I can only hope that in some small way I can do the same for others.

All the best,
